Starmer Leads on Iran Contingency Plans

The Iran war entering its fifth week raises questions about the need for Whitehall to enhance contingency planning due to potential impacts at home. Although MPs are on recess, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer is set to host a roundtable with industry stakeholders to discuss the ongoing conflict, particularly with the Strait of Hormuz’s closure and talks of a possible US invasion.

In other developments, Labour has kicked off its local elections campaign. There is also an analysis of the current polls from a national perspective, with significant attention on the lead-up to the 7 May elections.

Looking forward, Sam and Anne will return next Monday to preview the local elections alongside Professor Rob Ford, an academic and pollster. Regular updates will continue from Monday, 13 April.

Starmer’s really nailed it this time, hasn’t he? A roundtable to discuss a war while the MPs are sunbathing—bravo, mate! 😏🍹

  2. Starmer’s got his hands full with Iran, while the rest of us are just hoping he doesn’t get lost on his way to the roundtable – maybe a map could help? 😂 #EuroPolitics

  3. Starmer’s roundtable on Iran? Brilliant use of time, especially while the MPs are off pretending to care about their constituents. 🙄 I guess discussing war plans is the new favorite pastime of Whitehall instead of, you know, actually solving problems at home.

Starmer hosting a roundtable while the world’s on fire? Classic UK governance: why fix a leaky roof when you can just hand out umbrellas! 😂💼

  5. Funny how they’re just now realizing that planning is needed in a conflict that’s been brewing for weeks—typical Whitehall shenanigans! 🤷‍♂️ Hope they bring snacks to that roundtable; it might take a while to figure out how to fix the world! 🍵

Starmer hosting a roundtable on Iran while the rest of us are enjoying our bank holiday? Classic! 🤦‍♂️ As if the Strait of Hormuz closure affects my pint down the pub. 🍻

  7. Typical Starmer, always leading from the front—right into a quagmire! 😏 Just what we need, a roundtable on war while the MPs are off enjoying a cheeky pint! 🍻

Oh, fabulous! Nothing screams “we’re on top of it” like a roundtable while the world’s going up in flames. Can’t wait to see how the local elections fare when our biggest worry is whether we can still get our tea. ☕️😏

  9. Starmer’s really got his finger on the pulse, doesn’t he? While the rest of us are busy dodging traffic, he’s plotting world peace over tea 🤔.

Seems like Starmer’s finally found his calling: hosting a roundtable instead of just spinning in circles. 🎪 Bet the industry folks are thrilled to brainstorm while the rest of us are just trying to stay afloat! 😅

Starmer’s really into that ‘let’s plan for a war’ vibe, eh? Must be nice to sit around with the big wigs while the rest of us are just trying to avoid the next round of inflation. 🤷‍♂️

Starmer’s really got his hands full, hasn’t he? I mean, who wouldn’t want to juggle a potential war while prepping for a council election? Classic British multitasking! 😂🍵

  16. Oh, brilliant! Just what we needed—a roundtable while the world’s on fire. Nothing says “I care” like a chat over tea while the Strait of Hormuz is playing hard to get! ☕️🌍
