Ex-PM Tsipras Aims to Unite Greece’s Divided Opposition with New Party

The 53-year-old pediatrician became a prominent leader in a series of protests against the nation’s political leadership after a crash and alleged governmental cover-up. However, she distanced herself from many supporters with statements close to right-wing populism concerning abortion rights and relations with Turkey.

“Her stances are reminiscent of [Italy’s] 5Star Movement, but with a more pronounced patriotic and nationalist tone, emphasizing corruption,” Seriatos commented.

“Initially, there was moral credibility and many seemed open to her political message, but she’s now on a downward path,” he continued. Detractors also claim she’s aligned with individuals who have pro-Russian sympathies or connections to Moscow.

Another right-leaning party is anticipated from former PM and New Democracy leader Antonis Samaras.

He was expelled from the party in 2024 after opposing government policies, including those on Turkish relations and what he termed “woke” initiatives like same-sex marriage recognition.

The 75-year-old former leader may have limited electoral influence, but his party might challenge Mitsotakis, whose polls indicate difficulty in winning enough votes for governance.

“The new parties span the political spectrum from left to right, extending beyond traditional political lines, likely shifting the political landscape,” said George Arapoglou, director of pollster Pulse RC.

Looks like Tsipras is trying to unite the opposition like a bad magician pulling a rabbit out of a hat—except the rabbit’s already been cooked. 🍽️ Just what Greece needs, more parties to throw confetti at the problems instead of actually solving them! 🥳

So, Tsipras thinks he can unite the opposition like a good ol’ Greek salad—just toss in a bit of everything and hope for the best! 🍅🥗 But I wouldn’t hold my breath; this political mezze might just turn sour! 😂

Just what we need, another party to unite the un-uniteable! 😅 Because clearly, nothing screams stability like a 53-year-old pediatrician playing political hopscotch while spouting populist slogans. 🍷

So, we’ve got a former PM trying to unite a divided house while a pediatrician moonlights as a political messiah—sounds like a classic episode of “Greek Tragedy: The Reality Show” 🍿. Meanwhile, the only thing uniting them might just be their shared love for chaos and a good glass of ouzo! 😜

Just what Greece needs – another party led by someone who thinks a bit of nationalism and a sprinkle of corruption will fix everything. Can’t wait for the next political circus, it’s like a never-ending episode of a bad soap opera! 🍿😏

Looks like Tsipras is trying to unite the opposition like a cat herding sheep—good luck with that! 😂 With the way things are going, I’d say the only thing he’s likely to unite is a queue at the ouzo bar! 🍸
