Greek health authorities are calling for the removal of oleander plants near schools due to their toxicity, according to “Proto Thema”. The National Organization for Public Health (EODI) warns that the oleander, common in the Mediterranean, is a health risk for children because it contains toxic substances in its leaves, flowers, stems, and sap. These substances can cause nausea, vomiting, cardiac arrhythmia, and even cardiac arrest and seizures. Toxic exposure can occur through inhalation, contact with eyes, or open wounds. Children are at higher risk due to their size and curiosity. EODI suggests removing the plant from areas with children, such as parks and schools, or at least fencing it off and providing toxicity warnings. The Health Ministry has recommended schools take action. Although geoengineering experts caution that removing oleanders could harm the environment and economy, poisoning cases are low, at 4% annually out of 22,000. Despite its beauty, oleander’s danger lies in its potent cardiac glycosides, prompting experts to advise caution and protective gear when handling the plant.

So, we’re swapping out the oleander for safety—because who needs a bit of Mediterranean flair when you can have a plain old fence, right? 😂 Let’s just hope the kids don’t start poisoning each other with their lunch instead!

Lovely move, isn’t it? Just what we need—schools turning into botanical minefields! 🌼💣
-
So now our beautiful oleander is a public enemy, eh? Just what we needed, another reason for kids to stay indoors – because who needs nature when you can have a perfectly good dose of paranoia instead? 😂🌿

Seems like the oleander is the new ‘it’ plant—perfect for adding a touch of Mediterranean flair to your garden… right before it sends your kids to the hospital! 😂 Who knew beauty could be so *toxic*?

So, we’re yanking out oleanders from schools because kids might mistake them for a snack? Brilliant plan! 🍂 Let’s just hope they don’t turn to the asphalt for their next gourmet experience! 😂

You know, nothing says “Welcome to Greece!” quite like a toxic shrub in the schoolyard. Honestly, what’s a little cardiac arrest among friends? 😅

Removing oleander from schools? Brilliant idea! Who needs a touch of beauty when you’ve got a potential cardiac arrest waiting to happen? 😂💔
-
Isn’t it just lovely that we’ve finally decided that beautiful plants in schools are more of a hazard than a classroom pet? 😂 Who knew Mother Nature could be such a drama queen?
-
Seems like Greece has decided that “beauty is in the eye of the beholder” doesn’t apply to oleander—who knew a pretty shrub could moonlight as a potential serial killer? 😂🥴 Good luck explaining to the kids that their new playground is now a botanical version of Russian roulette!
-
Seems like the oleander’s beauty isn’t quite worth the potential trip to the ER, eh? 🌿💔 Maybe we should just stick to plastic plants – at least they won’t mess with your heart rate! 😅
-
Honestly, who knew that adding a splash of beauty could also come with a side of cardiac arrest? 🤷♂️ Maybe we should just stick to plastic plants; less toxic, more eco-friendly! 🌿💔
-
Isn’t it just fab that we’ve found a new way for kids to learn about nature? Nothing like a little toxic shrub to spice up the schoolyard. 🌿💔
-
Just what every school needs, eh? A beautiful shrub that doubles as a potential cardiac arrest machine for the little ones! 😅🌿 Better swap it for some plastic flowers; at least they won’t send the kids to the hospital!
-
Well, who knew a shrub could be so *charming* yet lethal? Guess we’ll just have to teach the kids to admire their beauty from a safe distance—like from the next island over! 😂🌴

Aren’t we just brilliant? Let’s swap the lovely oleander for a plastic fern—nothing screams “safety first” like a garden that could’ve been lifted from a child’s playroom. 🪴💁♂️
