Dutch Court Prohibits Grok from Creating Fake Nudes, Imposes €100K Daily Fines

The ban’s scope is limited to the Netherlands, but the plaintiffs argue it might have broader implications since Grok can’t track a user’s location.

X provided no comment on the matter.

In January, the platform implemented restrictions after discovering Grok’s generation of images featuring real individuals in swimwear or nude. Reports indicated about 3 million pictures were made over 11 days.

At that time, X stated: “We are dedicated to ensuring X is a safe environment for all, maintaining our zero-tolerance policy against child sexual exploitation, non-consensual nudity, and unwanted sexual content.”

The judge noted X and xAI’s efforts to limit fake nudes and child sexual abuse material but expressed uncertainty about their effectiveness.

Offlimits, an organization combatting online abuse, and Fonds Slachtofferhulp, which supports crime victims, initiated the case, filing a complaint in late February.
