Sarajevo (Fena) – Freight terminals in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia remain blocked by carriers for the fifth consecutive day, while protests have been suspended in Montenegro and North Macedonia following the European Commission’s announcement of a new visa strategy for professional truck drivers.
Transport sector representatives consider this a positive development; however, they still seek clearer guarantees. BiH carriers are requesting assurances that their drivers will not face penalties or prosecution in the EU until the new regulations are enacted. They are also advocating for the resolution of several issues, including the reimbursement of fuel excise duties, reductions in toll fees, expedited border procedures, and agreements on VAT refunds.
The Head of the EU Delegation in BiH, Luigi Soreca, has scheduled a meeting for 3 February between ministers from Western Balkan countries and Commission representatives, while the Chairwoman of the Council of Ministers of BiH, Borjana Krišto, emphasizes the need for constructive dialogue and reiterates the Council’s commitment to collaboratively addressing these challenges with the EU.
