NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte stated that Russia is mistaken if it believes threats will divide or deter NATO from supporting Ukraine. “Our unity is unshaken — our support to Ukraine is clear,” he emphasized.
Rutte criticized Russia’s actions as “reckless,” citing incidents like “drones and missiles” entering NATO airspace, fires allegedly set at factories producing defense equipment for Ukraine, and a “hybrid attack” on Germany’s Leipzig-Halle airport.
“The dangers Russia poses are clear,” Rutte asserted.
On Tuesday, Berlin attributed an attempted attack in Leipzig on August 4 to Russia. Explosive-laden drones were found near the airport, including one near a Ukrainian Antonov plane used for transporting munitions.
These statements highlight rising tensions between Moscow and Ukraine’s Western allies, who increasingly accuse Russia of sabotage and hybrid attacks while providing military aid to Kyiv.
Last month, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov warned that Russia would “adopt much harsher methods to destroy everything that enables the West to fuel Kyiv’s war machine.”
