EU’s Kallas Calls Leipzig Drone Attack ‘State-Sponsored Terrorism’

Other ministers maintained a similarly firm stance. French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot described the attack as part of a “long-running attempt by the Kremlin to destabilize the European Union, its democratic processes” and reduce support for Ukraine.

“We will not let an act of such gravity go without consequences,” Barrot stated, noting that France would back Germany’s sanctions proposals and suggest actions against more Russian vessels.

Irish Foreign Minister Helen McEntee remarked that Europe had moved beyond discussing mere “hybrid threats.”

“We’re talking about significant activity,” she said, accusing Moscow of a “very, very clear attempt” to divide EU governments and instill fear among citizens.

Berlin formally accused Moscow on Tuesday for the August 4 incident, where three explosive-laden drones were found near Leipzig-Halle Airport. Germany announced diplomatic retaliatory measures and plans to pursue new EU sanctions. Russia denies any involvement.

Kallas mentioned that another 1,600 listings aimed at Russia’s military-industrial complex were already underway.

No decision will be made at Wednesday’s meeting, but she said that Germany has the political support of its EU partners. “This is the unified response that we need.”

Looks like the Kremlin’s new strategy is to boost EU unity—nothing like a good ol’ state-sponsored drama to get everyone on the same page, eh? 😂 Let’s see how many more sanctions it takes to convince them to keep their drones at home!

Oh, how delightful! Nothing like a good old state-sponsored drone show to remind us of the Kremlin’s knack for party crashing. 🎉🇪🇺 It’s like they took “stirring the pot” to a whole new level! 😂

  3. Can’t wait for the EU’s next episode of “Sanctions: The Never-Ending Saga.” 🎭 Maybe this time they’ll include a dance-off with the Kremlin for extra flair! 💃🕺

  4. Isn’t it charming how the EU’s leaders have suddenly discovered their backbone? 👀 Must’ve been hiding under the table with the last round of sanctions! 🍻

  5. Just what we needed, more “state-sponsored” fun and games from the Kremlin, eh? 🤦‍♂️ If only they put as much effort into their football teams as they do into drone attacks! 🥴

Right, because nothing says “we’re really serious” like a good ol’ round of sanctions and a stern statement – the perfect recipe for a cozy Euro-picnic! 🍷💼

Looks like the EU’s got its knickers in a twist over a few drones, eh? Must be nice to have a hobby like “state-sponsored terrorism” to spice up boring diplomatic meetings. 🥱✈️
