ZAGREB – Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković stated on Tuesday that any future peace deal regarding Ukraine must uphold the country’s territorial integrity and offer assurances to prevent further Russian aggression.
Plenković shared on X that he took part in a meeting of the European Council alongside allies of Ukraine, discussing the path to peace with U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington on Tuesday.
“I highlighted the necessity of achieving a just and enduring peace that safeguards Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity while providing robust security guarantees. This is vital for both European and global security,” Plenković remarked.
“We all push for an immediate cessation of the war, which has resulted in significant loss of life,” he added, asserting that comprehensive support for the Ukrainian populace and President Volodymyr Zelensky will persist.
Following a summit with Putin on Friday in Alaska, Trump met with Zelensky and NATO and EU leaders at the White House on Monday. Participants reported that security guarantees for Ukraine, coordinated with European allies and the U.S., were discussed.
Zelensky indicated that the specifics of the guarantees are expected to be detailed within ten days, with territorial matters concerning a potential peace agreement to be negotiated between Ukraine and Russia. (August 19, 2025)
