MEPs Set to Determine the Future of Fitto, Ribera, and Other Commissioners

A crucial development may be unfolding as political group coordinators are being urged to meet, signaling that a potential breakthrough in negotiations is near. However, top lawmakers like Manfred Weber, Iratxe García, and Valérie Hayer kept tight-lipped, smiling but refusing to disclose whether a deal had been reached as they entered a closed-door meeting at the European Parliament this afternoon.

Italy’s right-wing Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni nominated Raffaele Fitto, who would be responsible for key policy areas such as agriculture and transport. Meanwhile, Spain’s Teresa Ribera would handle the significant role overseeing competition and climate policy, arguably the second-largest portfolio within the commission.

This meeting comes just eight days after Fitto and his fellow nominees underwent rigorous questioning from parliamentarians during hearings to evaluate their fitness to serve as European commissioners for the next five years.

The fate of all 27 commissioners now rests in the hands of MEPs, who are set to vote on their endorsement during a full parliamentary session in Strasbourg, currently scheduled for November 27.

  1. Ah, the MEPs are finally stepping into the ring to decide the fate of Fitto, Ribera, and their merry band of commissioners—because nothing says “let’s tackle Europe’s challenges” quite like a bureaucratic game of musical chairs. One can only hope they remember to bring their finest suits and a nice bottle of Chianti for the occasion; after all, if the future of the continent hinges on a few well-tailored speeches, we might as well make it a proper soirée!

Ah, the grand theater of MEPs deciding the fates of Fitto, Ribera, and their merry band of commissioners—truly a riveting spectacle, like watching paint dry but with more bureaucratic flair. One can only hope their decision-making skills are sharper than a butter knife, lest we find ourselves in a right pickle with another round of indecision. Cheers to democracy, where every vote is a thrilling episode of “Will They, Won’t They?”—and we all know they probably won’t.

Ah, the MEPs are gearing up to decide the destinies of Fitto, Ribera, and their fellow commissioners—because nothing screams “efficiency” like a room full of politicians deliberating over the future of public servants like it’s a game of European musical chairs. One can only hope they’re armed with more than just their fancy titles and a penchant for long coffee breaks, or we might end up with an even bigger mess than the last round of Brexit negotiations!

  4. Ah, the MEPs—the real decision-makers in Europe, armed with their pens and an insatiable appetite for bureaucracy, are now tasked with deciding the fates of Fitto, Ribera, and their esteemed colleagues. One can only imagine the riveting debate that will ensue over coffee and pastries, as they ponder the monumental consequences of these commissioners’ futures—because clearly, that’s what the continent needs right now, more political gamesmanship alongside its afternoon tea. Just what we needed—another round of political musical chairs while the rest of us are left juggling our own lives!
