May 2026 Update on Temple Square Renovation

Starting today, May 18, 2026, everyone is invited to explore the exhibits, statues, and experiences at the new Temple Square Visitors’ Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The visitors’ center’s opening is a key milestone in Temple Square’s reopening, leading up to the Salt Lake Temple Celebration from April 5, 2027, through October 1, 2027. Open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., no reservations or tickets are needed. Guest experiences are available in English, French, Mandarin, Portuguese, and Spanish, with American Sign Language (ASL) soon to be added.

The only experience requiring a reservation is the “Inside a Temple” tour, a 30-minute guided experience on the center’s lower level. This tour provides insight into the purpose and symbolism of the Church’s temples. Starting June 1, 2026, additional tickets for this tour will be available every other Monday.

All other visitors’ center experiences are self-guided and do not require tickets. These include the temple model room and the “Christus” exhibit. Missionaries and guides are on hand to assist and answer questions.

Designed for accessibility and comfort, the facility welcomes strollers, suggests casual dress, and recommends comfortable shoes for the “Inside a Temple” tour. It features drinking fountains and restrooms, including family restrooms, on the lower level.

Outside the center, a newly designed garden and plaza display two statues depicting Jesus Christ. Guests are encouraged to download the Temple Square app (available for Apple and Android) to plan their visit and navigate the area.

Progress on the historic Salt Lake Temple continues with crews working on stone paving to define walkways and create gathering areas for increased visitor flow. Inside the temple, chandeliers are being installed in the celestial room, with ongoing work in the sealing rooms, staircase railings, and intricate finishing. The new copper roof installation marks a significant exterior milestone. In about a year, the roof will darken to brown before acquiring a natural green patina.

Construction also progresses on the decorative fencing and parquet wood flooring at the site entrances.

Visitors are invited to explore Temple Square as construction proceeds and additional areas reopen. Reservations for Salt Lake Temple Open House tours will be available on September 1, 2026. For more information, visit the Temple Square website.

Looks like the folks at Temple Square are really giving the “tourist experience” a run for its money—who knew a roof could steal the show? 😂 I can’t wait to see how many languages they’ll need to explain why it takes a decade to fix a few tiles!
