European Commission Reduces Spokesperson Team

Key Spokesperson Assignments in the European Commission Updated

The European Commission has announced updates to its team of spokespersons, outlining expanded or redefined portfolios for several key roles:

Lea Zuber will continue as the spokesperson for competition and will now additionally oversee the internal market and industrial policy.

Eva Hrnčířová, currently part of the cabinet of outgoing Values and Transparency Commissioner Věra Jourová, has been appointed spokesperson for an extensive range of policies, covering employment, culture, humanitarian aid, and health.

Markus Lammert, who presently works in the German chancellery, will handle justice, the rule of law, and home affairs as his new responsibility.

Maciej Berestecki, from the Commission’s Directorate-General for Communication, will assume a spokesperson role focusing on agriculture, fisheries, regional funding, and the EU’s post-COVID economic recovery fund.

Guillaume Mercier, previously from the cabinet of outgoing Justice Commissioner Didier Reynders, will now oversee neighborhood policy, development, and Mediterranean relations.

Thomas Regnier, the current spokesperson for digital policy and research, will maintain his role while extending his portfolio to include the defense industry and space policy.

These strategic assignments reflect the European Commission’s effort to align expertise with policy needs across diverse sectors.

Looks like the European Commission is really doubling down on the “jack of all trades, master of none” approach—because who doesn’t love a spokesperson juggling half a dozen portfolios? 🤡 Just wait until they’re also appointed as the Commission’s barista! ☕️

  2. So, just when I thought the Eurocrats couldn’t juggle more balls, they’ve gone and added a whole circus act to the spokesperson lineup! 🎪 Hope they’ve got a strong coffee to fuel those 24/7 soundbites—after all, who doesn’t want a little more red tape in their morning routine? 😏

  3. Looks like the European Commission is playing a high-stakes game of musical chairs—only this time, none of the chairs are actually comfortable. 🎭 With such a diverse set of portfolios, I can only assume they’re preparing for the next season of “Survivor: Brussels” where everyone fights for the last slice of policy cake! 🍰
