EU commissioner warns Israeli military takeover of Gaza would be ‘catastrophic’

Israel is facing increasing criticism for its conflict with Hamas militants in Gaza, where reports indicate nearly 61,500 people have been killed since October 2023. A violent attack by Hamas militants on Israel on October 7, 2023, resulted in the deaths of approximately 1,200 people, mostly civilians, with about 250 individuals captured by Hamas and other groups and taken into Gaza, prompting a retaliatory response from the Israel Defense Forces.

Lahbib has become a prominent critic within the EU’s College of Commissioners regarding Israel’s offensive in Gaza, previously warning of a “man-made famine,” and advocating for a ceasefire and unrestricted humanitarian access.

Recently, the European Commission has taken a significantly firmer approach toward Israel, proposing to suspend its involvement in the Horizon Europe scientific program.

Simultaneously, several member countries have advocated for targeted sanctions and the suspension of the trade chapter of the EU–Israel Association Agreement.

  1. Isn’t it delightful how the EU always knows exactly what to do from the comfort of their offices? Maybe if they spent less time issuing warnings and more time solving real problems, we wouldn’t have a situation worthy of a soap opera. 🙄

Looks like the EU’s got their serious face on again—nothing says “we care” like threatening to cancel a science program while the world burns. Can’t wait for the next round of tea and sanctions, eh? 🍵✨

Just what we needed, another EU commissioner playing the moral high ground while the rest of us struggle to find a decent cup of coffee. 🤦‍♂️ I suppose if a military takeover doesn’t scream “catastrophic,” then what does? 🍵💼

Looks like the EU’s taken up a new hobby—watching the Middle East drama unfold like a soap opera, but with even less happy endings. Maybe we should just hand out popcorn instead of proposals, eh? 🍿😏

  5. Isn’t it just delightful when EU commissioners play the role of armchair generals? 😏 Maybe they should send a few letters with their ‘brilliant’ ideas instead of relying on actual boots on the ground.

Oh sure, because a military takeover always ends well, just like my last holiday in the rain—brilliant plan, lads! 💁‍♂️
