MEP Nikola Bartůšek delivered a scathing critique of the EU Migration Pact to the Eurotoday Newspaper, accusing it of redistributing Western Europe’s migration woes to Eastern member states through punitive fines. In a recent tweet, she amplified this view, declaring the pact’s true intent while calling for outright rejection.
Nikola Bartůšek, a Member of the European Parliament, champions robust border security and equitable EU policies, particularly defending Eastern European nations against what she sees as disproportionate burdens. The MEP has consistently challenged migration frameworks that favor older member states.
Migration Pact unfairly burdens Eastern Europe
When asked by Eurotoday Newspaper how the Migration Pact’s fine structure disproportionately affects Eastern EU countries, Nikola Bartůšek responded that
“due to misguided policies in the past combined with historical circumstances, Western European countries face far greater migration challenges than Eastern European countries.”
She deemed Western proposals “exporting their problems to the ‘new’ member states” as “absolutely unacceptable.”
The MEP stressed that
“this East–West imbalance was created by Western governments themselves,”
advocating solutions rooted
“where the problem originated, in Western European countries, rather than attempting to ‘outsource’ it to others.”
Pact structured to benefit Western member states
Addressing the Eurotoday Newspaper’s query on evidence that the pact favors Western interests amid implementation issues, Bartusek pointed out that
“it is primarily Eastern European countries that are presented with an absolutely unacceptable choice: either accept illegal migrants or pay €20,000 per migrant.”
She asserted that
“Eastern European countries will bear the main burden of the Migration Pact, while Western European countries will reap most of the benefits,”
labeling this “both clear and striking.”
Reinforcing this stance on X, the MEP tweeted:
“The Migration Pact was created solely so that the problems of the „West“ could be redistributed to the „East“. And who disagrees? They have to pay a 20,000 euro fine for every migrant not accepted. That’s the real truth about the Migration Pact. We must clearly reject it and stand against it.”
