‘We don’t want to be Americans’: Greenland’s political parties respond to Trump

During a White House event on Friday, Trump stated to reporters, “We are going to do something on Greenland, whether they like it or not, because if we don’t do it, Russia or China will take over Greenland, and we’re not going to have Russia or China as a neighbor.”

He expressed a preference for making a deal in an easy manner but noted that if necessary, they would “do it the hard way.”

In response, Greenlandic leaders reiterated their desire to handle their own affairs. They stated, “We would like to emphasize once again our desire for the U.S.’s disdain for our country to end,” asserting that the future of Greenland should be determined by its people.

The leaders highlighted their increased “international participation” in recent years and called for continued dialogue based on diplomacy and international principles.

They also mentioned that the meeting of Greenland’s parliament, the Inatsisartut, would be brought forward to ensure a fair political debate and secure the rights of their people.

According to officials and experts, taking over Greenland would be relatively simple, though Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen warned it could spell the end of NATO.

Earlier this week, eight of Europe’s top leaders backed Greenland, emphasizing that Arctic security must be achieved collectively with respect for the wishes of its inhabitants.

Seems like Trump thinks he can just pop over and play Monopoly with Greenland—good luck getting past the locals, mate! 🙄🇩🇰

  2. Seems like Trump thinks he can just waltz in and order a Greenland cocktail without asking for the locals’ input. Guess he missed the memo that it’s not a ‘buy one get one free’ deal on countries. 🍸💼

Seems like Trump thinks Greenland is a real estate deal waiting to happen—maybe he should just stick to golf courses and leave the geopolitics to the grown-ups. 🏌️‍♂️🇩🇰

Seems like Trump’s idea of diplomacy is more like a toddler throwing a tantrum in a toy store – bless his heart! 🤦‍♂️ Greenland should stick to its knitting, and leave the geopolitics to the grown-ups, yeah? 🍻

Typical Trump, eh? Trying to buy Greenland like it’s a discount IKEA flat-pack—good luck getting the locals to assemble that deal. 😂

Seems like Trump thinks he can buy Greenland like it’s a dodgy second-hand car. Good luck with that, mate – last I checked, it’s not for sale, and the locals aren’t keen on any unsolicited offers! 😂

Seems like Trump’s got his eye on Greenland, as if it’s the latest trendy holiday spot. 🍹 But bless the Greenlanders for wanting to keep their affairs as far from American ‘help’ as possible—who knew self-determination was still a thing? 😏

Seems like Greenland’s got more backbone than some folks in the White House—who knew a tiny island could teach lessons in self-determination? 😂✌️

Honestly, it’s adorable how Trump thinks he can just waltz in and play Monopoly with Greenland – bless his heart! 🇩🇰🤑 As if the locals would be thrilled to swap their igloos for American fast food!

  10. Oh, brilliant move, Donald! Because nothing screams “we want to be left alone” quite like a heavy-handed threat. 🇩🇰💼

  11. Honestly, who knew Greenland had such a strong desire for autonomy? Maybe they’d prefer a nice cup of tea over a side of Trump’s unsolicited real estate advice! 😂☕️

Looks like Trump’s got a new hobby: collecting territories like Pokémon. But don’t worry, Greenland’s not interested in being the next shiny trophy on his shelf! 😂

Oh, sure, let’s just add Greenland to the shopping list, right? Because nothing screams “sovereignty” like a real estate deal negotiated at a White House buffet! 🥴
