Bulgarian Prime Minister: Lasting Peace Requires Ukraine and the European Union

SOFIA – Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov emphasized that a fair and enduring peace can only be realized with the involvement of Ukraine and the European Union in a post shared on the social media platform “X.” In today’s video conference of the “Coalition of the Willing,” discussions were held regarding the impending gathering in Alaska, the Prime Minister reported.

Zhelyazkov confirmed that efforts will persist in close partnership with the U.S. and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to foster peace in Ukraine, ensuring long-term stability, security, and prosperity. Reports indicate that the meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled for this Friday at a U.S. military base in Anchorage, Alaska.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, French President Emmanuel Macron, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz have dismissed any discussions regarding the transfer of Ukrainian territories to Russia following their virtual meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump and senior leaders from Ukraine and key Western allies of Kyiv, according to Reuters.

Bulgaria’s backing will persist even during the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine, stated the Bulgarian Prime Minister at the fourth High-Level Conference on the Reconstruction of Ukraine held in Rome on July 10-11. This meeting aimed to reaffirm the commitment to achieving a fair and lasting peace for Ukraine. Discussions focused on ensuring stability for Ukraine and the region following a potential peace agreement, highlighting the need to coordinate efforts for enhanced collective support for Ukraine and the development of a unified financial assistance framework by 2026.

Earlier this year, the Bulgarian Prime Minister remarked that an independent and democratic Ukraine is essential for the security and stability of Europe. Bulgaria’s actions in support of Ukraine solidify its position within the collective efforts of the international community, NATO, and the European Union. We stand united with the people of Ukraine, who are defending not only their territory but also our shared values, Zhelyazkov noted at that time. (August 13)

Sure, because nothing says “lasting peace” like a video call and a meeting in Alaska. 🤷‍♂️ Who needs action when we can just keep talking about it, eh?

  2. When it comes to achieving lasting peace, who knew it required a video call? Next thing you know, we’ll be solving world hunger over a pint in a pub! 🍻

Seems like the Bulgarian PM has cracked the code for world peace—just throw in a Zoom call and a bit of EU flair! Who knew diplomacy was just a video conference away? 😂

So, let me get this straight: we need Ukraine and the EU for peace, but a video call from Sofia to Alaska is the new diplomatic hotshot? 🤔 Sounds like a grand plan, innit? 🍷

Looks like the Prime Minister found the secret recipe for peace: a sprinkle of EU bureaucracy, a dash of political theater, and voilà—lasts longer than a Bulgarian winter! 🥶💼

  6. Isn’t it charming how the PM thinks peace is just a Zoom call away? 🌍💼 Next stop, Alaska for a chat about stability—because nothing says “lasting peace” like a conference in a military base! 😂

Nothing says “lasting peace” quite like a video conference from a cozy sofa in Sofia while the big players meet in Alaska. 🍿 It’s like organizing a football match while sitting in a café, innit?

Oh sure, because nothing screams “lasting peace” like a video call involving half the world’s leaders while sipping espresso in Alaska. Must be a real party! 😏

When it comes to achieving lasting peace, I’m guessing the secret ingredient is a sprinkle of EU bureaucracy and a dash of Ukrainian courage—because who doesn’t love a good meeting in Alaska to sort out the world’s mess, eh? 😂💼

Isn’t it charming how everyone suddenly wants to be best mates in a virtual meeting while the world’s on fire? Must be the new trend in diplomacy, right? 😂

Aye, because nothing says “lasting peace” like a video call and a few fancy words, right? 🥳 Who needs action when you’ve got a Coalition of the Willing, eh?

Causes of Democratic Backsliding

Causes of Democratic Backsliding

Democracy rarely collapses in a single dramatic moment; it is often hollowed out gradually, through steps like court-packing, hostile media laws, weakened watchdogs, a frightened opposition, and the public being told that rights are obstacles. This gradual weakening, known as democratic backsliding, affects Europe and other fragile democracies, as well as societies that believe elections alone su
