Bulgarian Prime Minister: Lasting Peace Requires Ukraine and the European Union

SOFIA – Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov emphasized that a fair and enduring peace can only be realized with the involvement of Ukraine and the European Union in a post shared on the social media platform “X.” In today’s video conference of the “Coalition of the Willing,” discussions were held regarding the impending gathering in Alaska, the Prime Minister reported.

Zhelyazkov confirmed that efforts will persist in close partnership with the U.S. and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to foster peace in Ukraine, ensuring long-term stability, security, and prosperity. Reports indicate that the meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled for this Friday at a U.S. military base in Anchorage, Alaska.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, French President Emmanuel Macron, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz have dismissed any discussions regarding the transfer of Ukrainian territories to Russia following their virtual meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump and senior leaders from Ukraine and key Western allies of Kyiv, according to Reuters.

Bulgaria’s backing will persist even during the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine, stated the Bulgarian Prime Minister at the fourth High-Level Conference on the Reconstruction of Ukraine held in Rome on July 10-11. This meeting aimed to reaffirm the commitment to achieving a fair and lasting peace for Ukraine. Discussions focused on ensuring stability for Ukraine and the region following a potential peace agreement, highlighting the need to coordinate efforts for enhanced collective support for Ukraine and the development of a unified financial assistance framework by 2026.

Earlier this year, the Bulgarian Prime Minister remarked that an independent and democratic Ukraine is essential for the security and stability of Europe. Bulgaria’s actions in support of Ukraine solidify its position within the collective efforts of the international community, NATO, and the European Union. We stand united with the people of Ukraine, who are defending not only their territory but also our shared values, Zhelyazkov noted at that time. (August 13)
