MADRID – On Tuesday, President of the Government Pedro Sánchez declared that the primary goal in Ukraine is to “end the war” and to secure “a just and lasting peace and security” for the nation.
Following the Extraordinary Council of Foreign Affairs of the EU, where Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, urged continued pressure on Russia to “initiate credible negotiations,” Sánchez took to the social media platform X to affirm that “the Ukrainian people have the support of Spain and the European Union.”
“United in favor of a diplomatic solution that safeguards the essential security interests of Ukraine and Europe,” wrote the head of the Spanish government.
During the Foreign Affairs summit this Monday, Albares also emphasized that decisions regarding Ukraine impact Europe, so it is crucial for Europeans to take part in the negotiations, which should start with “an unconditional and verifiable ceasefire as the first step towards a just and lasting peace.” (August 12)
