Skopje – We stand proud, with our heads held high. Today, Bulgaria acted against us. The world has witnessed the challenges and injustices we encounter as a state and a nation in the 21st century. We can now openly tell Europe that the truth has emerged, stated Prime Minister Christian Mitskoski at an extraordinary press conference.
Mitskoski asserted from the party headquarters that we are on the right side of history, “and Bulgaria has demonstrated that it can also miss the right side.”
– Macedonia’s European path is obstructed by Bulgaria, not just now, but since 1990. It has a clear agenda aimed at undermining the Macedonian nation and identity. However, let us make our mark with the truth. This is our Krushevo Manifesto; we must rally together with all our friends and allies. This is a fight for fundamental justice and values. This struggle neither begins nor concludes today; despite the tragic tribulations for Macedonia, there is a dimension of success, Mitskoski highlighted concerning the European Parliament’s vote on the report.
According to the Prime Minister, Macedonian history is fraught with injustices.
– These injustices are not only related to identity through denial and betrayal, but also socio-economic; people have been forced to flee. Today, the methods may differ, but the essence remains the same. We cannot confront injustices without naming, identifying, and overcoming them, Mitskoski remarked.
Today, the European Parliament passed the report by Austrian MEP Thomas Waitz on the country for 2023 and 2024 with 461 votes in favor, 121 against, and 107 abstentions. Prior to the vote, amendments proposed by MEPs Andrzej Halicki (European People’s Party), Kathleen Van Brempt (Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats), and Dan Barna (Renew Europe) were adopted, which removed references to “Macedonian language and identity” from the report.
