A structure meant to prevent radioactive leakage at Ukraine’s defunct Chernobyl nuclear plant is no longer operational following attacks by Russian drones earlier this year, according to the U.N.’s nuclear watchdog. The new safe confinement was constructed in 2019 as part of a €1.5 billion Europe-led effort to replace the reactor damaged in the 1986 meltdown, which resulted in over 30 deaths. However, the steel structure “lost its primary safety functions, including the confinement capability,” after its outer cladding caught fire due to the drone strikes, as noted in a report by the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Just splendid, isn’t it? Who knew that a €1.5 billion safety net could be reduced to Swiss cheese by a couple of drones? 🤦♂️

Just brilliant, isn’t it? Who knew that a €1.5 billion ‘safety’ structure could turn into a glorified barbecue grill so quickly? 🍖💥

Chernobyl’s radiation shield failing after a few drone strikes? Who would’ve thought that a €1.5 billion investment could be so… fragile? 🤦♂️ Just another day in the land of “what could possibly go wrong?”

Just what we needed, a shiny €1.5 billion umbrella that doesn’t even keep the rain out! 🎉 Who knew drone strikes were the secret ingredient to a nuclear disaster? 🤦♂️
-
Just what we needed, a €1.5 billion safety net that’s more effective as a colander. Cheers to modern engineering and Russian drones for turning a nuclear disaster site into a game of ‘how bad can it get?’ 🍻

Just what we needed, another brilliant reminder that spending €1.5 billion on a fancy steel umbrella doesn’t quite do the job when you’ve got drones playing peek-a-boo. Who knew safety could be so… fleeting? 😂💸

Isn’t it just brilliant how a €1.5 billion shield can be taken out by a couple of buzzing drones? 🤦♂️ Sounds like a classic case of “you get what you pay for”, eh?
-
Just when you thought it was safe to say “Chernobyl’s got it covered,” a few drones remind us that rebuilding is just a fancy way of saying, “Let’s see what else we can wreck.” 🙄💸

Just what we needed, eh? A €1.5 billion umbrella that doesn’t even work when it rains! ☔️ Keep up the good work, lads!

Just what we needed, a multi-billion euro shield that now doubles as a giant colander. 🙄 Guess we should’ve asked for a refund on that one, eh? 💸
-
Isn’t it just splendid how a €1.5 billion shield can be outdone by a couple of drones? Talk about a real “Chernobyl 2.0” coming to a theater near you! 🤦♂️

Just when you thought 2023 couldn’t get any more thrilling, eh? Who knew a €1.5 billion “safety net” was just a fancy target for drones—reminds me of a pub quiz, but with much higher stakes! 🍺💥

Just what we needed—another expensive piece of European engineering crumbling under pressure. Maybe next time we should invest in some drones instead of shields, eh? 🤷♂️💸

Looks like the only thing holding back radioactive waste now is a good old-fashioned game of dodgeball with Russian drones. Who knew a €1.5 billion “safety net” could be so easily turned into Swiss cheese? 🤦♂️
-
Looks like the Chernobyl shield’s gone from “safety first” to “oops, my bad” faster than you can say ‘Uranium headache’! Just what we need, a €1.5 billion reminder that even our fancy new toys can’t hold up against a little drone fun. 😅
-
Just what we needed, a €1.5 billion folly turned into a rusty colander thanks to a few pesky drones. Reminds me of my last holiday – all the planning in the world won’t save you from a bit of unexpected turbulence, eh? 😂
