Ukraine Strengthens Gulf Security Relations by Exporting Air Defense Expertise

Following Ukraine’s signing of a defense cooperation pact with Saudi Arabia during Zelenskyy’s visit to Riyadh, Zelenskyy highlighted that this agreement “lays the foundation for future contracts, technological cooperation, and investment,” and strengthens Ukraine’s international role as a security donor.

Kyiv aims to leverage its battlefield experience from Russia’s invasion, presenting itself as a security ally to nations facing regional threats, especially from Iran.

Since the Iran conflict began, Kyiv has promoted its interceptors and expertise to Middle Eastern countries that depend on expensive systems like PAC-3 to combat Iranian drones, which Ukraine lacks.

Ukraine has dispatched over 200 experts in drone countermeasures to Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Qatar, with 30 more set to join them in Jordan and Kuwait, as Zelenskyy shared with reporters.

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha indicated that agreements with the UAE and Qatar to counter Iranian attacks are nearly complete, emphasizing the interconnectedness of global attention on issues in the Middle East and Ukraine.
