Slovenian Armed Forces to Join EU Rapid Deployment Capabilities

Ljubljana – This year and next, the Slovenian Armed Forces will take part in the EU Rapid Deployment Capacity (EU RDC). On Wednesday, the government set a limit on the contingent size to that of a company, which includes participation in the EU Battlegroups (EUBG).

Following the session, the government stated that the defense minister will determine the specific forces and capabilities for the Slovenian Armed Forces’ involvement in both the core and support components of the EU RDC. The Ministry of Defence announced that this decision will be made shortly.

The availability and training level will be key in deciding the specific forces and capabilities for the support component, while an agreement with the lead nation will be crucial for the battlegroups, according to the ministry. Additionally, the government indicated that Slovenia will ensure a C-27 tactical transport aircraft is ready for the support segment of the EU RDC.

The EU Rapid Deployment Capacity serves as a military tool for the European Union to quickly respond to security threats and crises beyond its borders. (15 January)
