
Ljubljana – The Slovenian government has announced that it will allocate 151.97 million euros for official development assistance in 2024, which represents 0.23 percent of the country’s gross national income (GNI). This announcement was made based on preliminary data from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). In 2023, official development assistance was slightly higher at 0.24 percent of GNI.
The government has notably increased funding for humanitarian aid, which is set at 14.59 million euros in 2024. A significant portion of this aid will be directed towards Ukraine, impacted by the ongoing war, as well as Palestine, which is affected by armed conflicts.
In terms of multilateral development assistance, Slovenia has allocated nearly 12 percent more than the previous year, totaling 98.83 million euros. Out of this amount, 86.70 million euros will go towards Slovenia’s contribution to the EU budget for development cooperation and urgent humanitarian responses.
For bilateral development cooperation, Slovenia plans to allocate 53.14 million euros in 2024, focusing primarily on priority regions, including the Western Balkans, neighboring EU countries, and Sub-Saharan Africa.
Specifically for the Western Balkans, more than 39 percent of the funding, totaling 21.10 million euros, has been earmarked. The largest beneficiaries are North Macedonia (7.71 million euros), Serbia (5.15 million euros), and Bosnia and Herzegovina (5.06 million euros). (April 17)
