Russia Blames West for Obstructing Ukraine Peace Talks

Moscow (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Foreign Minister of Russia, Sergei Lavrov, blamed Western nations on Sunday for trying to “block” peace discussions to conclude the Ukraine fighting, after a spurt of diplomatic activity appeared to delay.

What does Zelensky blame on Moscow? Why does Putin claim Ukraine is a hostage of the West?

Lavrov said in an interview with state TV station Rossiya aired Sunday on Telegram,

“They’re just looking for a pretext to block negotiations,”

Also condemning Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for

“obstinately insisting, setting conditions, demanding an immediate meeting at all costs”

With Russian President Vladimir Putin.

What does Zelensky blame on Moscow?

On the other hand, a few days ago, Zelensky also blamed Moscow for

“doing everything it can”

To stop a gathering with Vladimir Putin to attempt to end the war.

US President Donald Trump has tried to unite the two leaders, but he remarked,

“That’s like oil and vinegar… they don’t get along too well.”

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Putin is prepared to meet Ukraine’s leader

“when the agenda is ready for a summit, and currently, it is not”.

He also accused Zelensky of refusing all negotiations.

Lavrov and other officials from Moscow have contended repeatedly that Western security guarantees to Kyiv are for escalation and entrenchment of the conflict, not toward peace. Moscow charges the West with obstructing peace and a negotiated settlement, and claims, supported by the West, that Ukraine’s demands are unreasonable or non-starters.

Why does Putin claim Ukraine is a hostage of the West?

Russia President Vladimir Putin has accused Western countries, notably the US and NATO, of starting and perpetuating the war in Ukraine. According to him, Russia is defending itself against Western aggression.

He claimed that Ukraine is a “hostage” of Western countries. Putin also accused the West of carrying out information attacks and economic sanctions against Russia, which so far have
