Russia asserts that energy strike moratorium remains in effect

Moscow (Eurotoday) – The Kremlin stated that a Russian moratorium on attacking energy infrastructure in Ukraine was still in effect despite reports of resumed Ukrainian strikes on Russian energy infrastructure targets.

Russian government spokesman Dmitry Peskov informed reporters that Russia was monitoring the circumstances and that the United States was able to do the same and come to its conclusions.

During a telephone call with his American counterpart, Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed to observe a 30-day ceasefire on Ukrainian energy targets.

“So far, there have been no other orders from the president,”

Peskov expressed when asked if Russia planned to maintain its moratorium or not.

“Our armed forces are following all instructions of the supreme commander-in-chief, but of course we are monitoring the situation very closely. Our American interlocutors are also able to monitor the situation and draw the appropriate conclusions.”

What happened at the gas metering station in Kursk?

Two days earlier, Russia and Ukraine traded blame over a strike on a gas metering station that is situated in Russia’s Kursk region, not far from their border.

The strike on the facility in Sudzha follows a US proposal that both sides pause strikes on energy infrastructure. The Russian Defense Ministry stated that Ukraine had “deliberately attacked” the station, which has been under Ukrainian command since Ukraine launched a shock incursion into Kursk in August 2024.

Moscow asserts that Ukrainian troops detonated the facility during their withdrawal from the Kursk region to undermine the US president’s peace efforts.

Russia’s Foreign Ministry further cautioned that it

“reserves the right to respond, including with a symmetrical response”

To what it contends were Ukrainian strikes on Russian energy infrastructure facilities. Kyiv has defined those indictments as “groundless” and claimed they are aimed at denying Ukraine and deceiving the international community.

  1. Isn’t it charming how Russia maintains a “moratorium” on energy strikes while the fireworks are still going off? 🤷‍♂️ Guess it’s more of a ‘suggestion’ than a rule, like those pesky speed limits in Paris! 🚦💨

Funny how a “moratorium” sounds just like a fancy word for “we’re too busy to do anything right now.” 🤔 Meanwhile, I guess the energy industry is still waiting for that ceasefire postcard from Moscow—should’ve sent it with a tracking number, eh? 🥴

Looks like Russia’s version of a “moratorium” is as reliable as a taxi driver’s GPS in Paris—never quite on point! 🥴 But hey, who wouldn’t want a bit of mystery in geopolitics, right?

Oh, splendid! Just when you thought a moratorium was a fancy way to say “let’s play nice,” Russia’s here to remind us that monitoring the situation is the new national sport. Just watch out for the energy strikes; they’re like a surprise party you never wanted! 🎉🙄
