Putin addressed the crowd on Saturday morning, referencing the sacrifices made during the Second World War to garner support for his troops fighting in Ukraine.
“The great feat of the generation of victors inspires the warriors carrying out the tasks of the special military operation today,” said the Russian leader, referring to the Kremlin’s term for the Ukraine invasion.
“They face an aggressive force armed and supported by the entire NATO bloc,” Putin stated. “Still, our heroes advance. Victory has always been and will always be ours,” he asserted.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy showed support for the ceasefire on Friday, thanking Trump for his role in reaching the agreement. “I thank the President of the United States and his team for their effective diplomatic efforts,” Zelenskyy said. “We expect the United States to ensure that the Russian side honors these agreements.”
Russia and Ukraine have repeatedly accused each other of breaking past ceasefire agreements. Russia declared a short ceasefire to mark Orthodox Easter in April, allowing for a prisoner exchange of 175 people. However, both nations accused each other of launching attacks during this ceasefire period.
