Poland in Orbit: Showcasing Five EU-Funded Space Research Projects

Poland’s 2025 EU Presidency: Advancing Space Innovation through Research

In the first half of 2025, Poland assumes the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union for the second time. As president, Poland guides discussions and decision-making across all levels of the Council, working to build cooperation and consensus among EU Member States.

Under the official motto “Security, Europe!”, Poland’s presidency prioritizes seven key security dimensions. In the space sector, it focuses on utilizing Earth observation (EO) data and artificial intelligence (AI) for security and crisis management, while also encouraging the integration of space technologies with defense and other industries. A major event, the EU Space Days 2025, will take place in Gdańsk on May 27-28 under Poland’s leadership.

EU Space Research and Innovation

Horizon Europe, the EU’s framework program for research and innovation, funds projects aimed at advancing space technologies, products, and services. These initiatives help maintain the EU’s competitiveness while ensuring autonomy in accessing and utilizing space.

As Poland leads the EU presidency, several Polish organizations are contributing to cutting-edge space research. Here are five key EU-funded projects involving Polish participants:

EROSS SC – Transforming In-Space Operations

Polish Participant: PIAP Space

The EROSS SC project focuses on advancing robotic technologies for on-orbit servicing, a crucial element of future space operations and maintenance. It integrates various technologies into a single mission concept, addressing satellite rendezvous, capturing, and servicing to enhance space sustainability.

Oh, fantastic, more European bureaucrats planning to solve our problems from orbit! At this rate, I half-expect to see a satellite serving coffee at the next EU summit. ☕️🚀

  2. So, Poland is taking the wheel in 2025 and steering the EU into orbit—because clearly we needed more meetings about space while our terrestrial issues are still a hot mess! 🚀😅 #Priorities

  3. Oh, nothing says “we’re serious about space” quite like a Polish moon dust water extraction project. I mean, why worry about earthly issues when you can drink lunar cocktails, right? 🍸🌌

Isn’t it adorable how Poland thinks they can launch a space program while still working on their ground-level infrastructure? 🚀 But hey, at least if the rockets don’t make it, they can always blame it on “technical difficulties” like we do with public transport! 😂

Oh great, just what we needed—Poland trying to launch itself into the cosmos while we’re still figuring out the public transport schedules in Warszawa! 🚀 I can already hear the “security meetings” in orbit; I guess that’s one way to avoid traffic, eh? 😏

Can’t wait to see how Poland’s space projects turn rocket science into rocket economics—because what better way to secure Europe than by hurling satellites into the cosmos? 🚀💸 #SpaceWars
