Brussels – The proposal to maintain the 15-year age limit for A-tractors has received support from both the Christian Democrat conservative EPP and the Social Democrat S&D, as noted by Swedish representatives Tomas Tobé and Johan Danielsson.
This backing likely ensures that the European Parliament will endorse the proposal.
The initiative allows each EU member state to determine its own age range of 15 to 18 years for the B1 license category, which will eventually encompass the A-tractor license.
Additionally, it is crucial for the EU member states in the Council of Ministers to agree on the change in age limits during the ongoing final negotiations with the Parliament and the European Commission.
Sweden’s Minister of Infrastructure Andreas Carlson aims to persuade other countries to support this change.
“This news is encouraging. We will advocate strongly in the Council and to the Commission,” Carlson stated while in Brussels for discussions with other EU transport ministers.
The proposed changes to A-tractor regulations are a response to the revised general driving license regulations that have been addressed within the EU in recent years.
In spring 2023, the European Commission introduced a proposal for updated driving license regulations, which included stricter controls on A-tractors, a category unique to Sweden within the EU.
