The World Cup held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico has concluded. The trophy is among the most prestigious in sports, with only a few having the honor to touch it. Typically, this privilege is reserved for the winning players. After the celebrations, the trophy is secured away for good reason.
Officially, the World Cup trophy is crafted from pure gold. It stands 36.5 cm tall and weighs 6 kilograms and 175 grams, with 5 kilograms and 92 grams of pure gold, according to FIFA.
The base is 13 cm in diameter, adorned with two malachite bands. As for its value, the material cost is approximately $250,000. However, its overall worth is estimated to be over $20 million, as reported by beIN SPORTS USA.
Interestingly, the version we recognize today is not the original. From 1930 to 1970, the trophy was named after Jules Rimet, a Frenchman.
In 1970, Brazil secured the World Cup for the third time, earning the right to keep the trophy as a tribute. It was stolen in 1983 and remains missing.
This led to the creation of a new design, featuring two hands holding the globe.
West Germany was the first to lift this new cup in 1974. Due to its immense value, the trophy is stored at FIFA headquarters in Zurich.
