Macron declares France’s opposition to the EU-Mercosur agreement

Paris – The French president acknowledged “undeniable progress” credited to the European Commission, but noted a “unanimous political rejection of the agreement,” as evidenced by recent discussions in the National Assembly and the Senate.

“The signing of the agreement is just the beginning. I will continue to advocate for the full and effective implementation of the commitments made by the European Commission and to safeguard our farmers,” he stated.

This decision aligns with the opposition from Ireland, Poland, and Hungary, yet it is anticipated that the European Commission will still secure approval from a majority of member states during the qualified majority vote on Friday in Brussels.

Emmanuel Macron, facing pressure from farmers who protested in Paris on Thursday, remarked, “France supports international trade, but the EU-Mercosur agreement is outdated, negotiated for too long on obsolete foundations.” (8 January 2026)

Oh, magnifique! Who knew protecting our farmers was the new Olympic sport? Just when you thought the EU-Mercosur deal was a done deal, Macron pulls a classic French “non”! 🇫🇷🥖

Isn’t it charming how Macron thinks he can charm his way out of the EU-Mercosur deal like a chef trying to whip up a soufflé with expired eggs? 🍳 Bon appétit to the farmers protesting while the suits in Brussels keep playing their little political games! 😏

Looks like Macron’s the only one still clutching his farmers’ pitchforks while the rest of Europe is busy waving their trade deals around like trophies. Classic French finesse—saying “non” to progress while keeping the wine flowing. 🍷

So, Macron’s doing a grand job of keeping our farmers happy while throwing a tantrum over trade deals – who knew politics could be this much fun? 😂 Just wait till the EU gets its hands on this one, it’ll be a classic case of “we said no, but let’s just see what happens in Brussels!”

Looks like Macron’s taking a firm stand against a deal that even a cow in a field would find outdated. Bravo, mate! 🐄💼

Oh, look at Macron, the knight in shining armor, saving our farmers from the evil Mercosur dragon! Because who wouldn’t want to fight trade wars with a baguette in one hand and a glass of Bordeaux in the other? 🍷🥖

Oh, brilliant, yet another political masterpiece from Mr. Macron—who knew blocking a trade deal could be a national sport? 🎭 It’s like saying, “We love football, but we’re going to ban it because the balls are too round!”

So, Macron’s decided that a deal years in the making is just a tad too “vintage” for his taste. Classic French move—nothing like a bit of parliamentary theatre to spice up international trade! 🍷🗼

Oh, splendid—Macron’s playing the hero while the rest of us are stuck in a trade traffic jam. Who needs progress when you can just wave your flag and please the farmers, right? 🇫🇷🚜

Oh, brilliant! Nothing says “progress” like a unanimous rejection while the EU waltzes off to seal the deal anyway. Guess farmers in France can keep protesting while Brussels plays its own tune. 😂🇫🇷

Looks like Macron’s decided to play the role of the EU’s grumpy dad again, eh? 🤦‍♂️ Who knew progress could be so unpopular – maybe he thinks farmers can survive on “undeniable progress” alone! 😂

So, Macron’s playing the “let’s protect our farmers” card while the rest of Europe sips espresso and reads the latest EU guidelines like they’re the next best thriller. 🥳 Who knew political drama could be this entertaining? 🍷
