The setup includes 250 tons of soil, 40 cubic meters of wood chips, and 90 meters of tree trunks for a forest-like feel. It features 645 perennials and 135 Christmas trees. Six benches are available for visitors to sit and enjoy the space. The Winter Garden focuses on nature and offers a peaceful place in the city. The opening featured lights and music. This installation brightens the Grote Markt and shows Leuven’s dedication to community spirit and celebrating winter’s beauty.

The city wants to ensure that nothing from the Winter Garden is wasted after the celebrations. Alderman Christophe Stockman said that everything will be reused to support sustainability. The topsoil will be used for new plants in different parts of Leuven, and the wood chips from trimming city trees will be used for ground cover in other green projects.

The 135 Christmas trees will be turned into mulch, and 1,100 shrubs and 645 plants will be planted in parks and gardens after the event.
