The Municipality of Tirana, the capital city of Albania, is making significant strides towards sustainability as part of its agreement with the European Union on Circular Economy Development.
In partnership with the European URBACT program and various EU cities, Tirana is developing projects aimed at introducing innovative practices for waste reduction and enhancing resource efficiency.
The initiative, “Let’s Go Circular,” seeks to establish a collaborative platform for citizens, businesses, and organizations to work together in creating and implementing effective strategies that promote the principles of the circular economy.
The recent fifth meeting of the local URBACT group focused on outlining the vision and primary goals of the Action Plan for the Circular Economy.
Set to be finalized by the end of 2025, this plan outlines initial actions such as reducing plastic packaging and organizing green initiatives as foundational steps towards transforming the city.
Beyond the strategic planning phase, the project will also prioritize testing pilot activities and tracking outcomes to ensure lasting sustainability.
By working closely with both local and international partners, the Municipality of Tirana aspires to set a benchmark for other European cities, ultimately fostering a cleaner and greener environment for all residents. (December 2)
