Left-populist BSW aims to oppose von der Leyen alongside the right.

Strasbourg – The German left-populist Alliance Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW) in the European Parliament plans to support the upcoming motion of no confidence against EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and her team.

The no-confidence motion, initiated by a right-wing Romanian member of parliament, accuses von der Leyen of lacking transparency and mismanagement regarding policies during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“As BSW, we will support the no-confidence motion, even if we do not agree on every aspect and it is mainly backed by right-wing forces whose values we do not share,” stated Fabio De Masi, spokesperson for the Alliance Sahra Wagenknecht delegation in the European Parliament. The BSW holds 5 out of 720 seats in the European Parliament.

Support also comes from the right-populist Alternative for Germany (AfD). “Von der Leyen’s removal is long overdue,” said AfD Member of the European Parliament Petr Bystron. This removal has thus far been blocked by a left-wing majority. “Of course, we as AfD support the no-confidence motion,” added Bystron.

De Masi: The right has written us off

De Masi criticized the majority of the European Parliament for not wanting to address “the legal violations of Ms. von der Leyen in the Pfizer affair.” He also pointed out that she undermines the Parliament on “rearmament goals” and disregards “violations of international law in Gaza and the attack on Iran.”

If the no-confidence motion passes, the EU Commission would need to resign collectively. However, this scenario is deemed unlikely, as it requires a two-thirds majority of the votes cast and a majority of the Parliament members.

The Commission remarked that such initiatives fall within the rights of the members of Parliament. “We have no further comments on their decisions.” (July 3)

Look who’s teaming up—lefties and righties, it’s like a bizarre political version of “The Odd Couple”! 🤷‍♂️ But hey, if it gets Ursula packing, who are we to judge the company they keep?

Looks like BSW is teaming up with the right-wing crowd for a little political tango—who knew opposites attract? 🤷‍♂️ A real “unity in confusion” moment, if you ask me! 💼💔

Looks like the BSW is ready to tango with the right-wingers; who knew opposites attract? 🤷‍♂️ With only 5 seats in the grand circus, their confidence must be as inflated as a cheap balloon at a kiddie party! 🎈

Looks like the left and right have finally found common ground – who knew politics was such a lovely potpourri of chaos? 😂 BSW supporting a no-confidence motion alongside the AfD? Classic Europe, where opposites attract like cheap wine and bad decisions! 🍷💼
