Koalition zwischen Unordnung und Gewissen

The unsuccessful election of three constitutional judges has presented the black-red coalition with its first real shock test. No majority, no plan B – and a summer interview with Friedrich Merz that raises more questions than it answers. Gordon Repinski analyzes how deep the rift really is between the coalition agreement and political maneuvering – and whether Jens Spahn is still the right man at the faction’s helm.

In a 200-second interview, Dirk Wiese, SPD parliamentary managing director, talks about trust, responsibility, and why he now sees the Union as obligated to repeat the election in September with the controversial candidate Frauke Brosius-Gersdorf.

Also: Trade dispute with the USA. The EU is delaying its counter-tariffs – is this a clever move or political capitulation? Romanus Otte from the Pro newsletter “Industry and Trade” assesses the new potential for escalation – and explains why Donald Trump is once again dictating the agenda with his tariff strategy.

And finally: A clandestine meeting of two political outsiders in Thuringia.

The Berlin Playbook is available as a podcast at 5 a.m. Gordon Repinski and the POLITICO team bring you up to speed on politics every morning – concise, European, insightful.

Seems like the black-red coalition has truly mastered the art of political juggling—without a safety net, of course. 🍂 Who knew the path to governance was paved with such delightful chaos? 🤷‍♂️

Oh lovely, another political circus where the clowns can’t even find their own noses! 🎪 How refreshing to see democracy in action—if only we had a Plan B, C, or even a decent cup of coffee to go with it! ☕️

Seems like the black-red coalition is playing a riveting game of “where’s the majority?” – I hear they’re working on a sequel called “Plan B: The Lost Hope.” 😏📉

Oh, splendid! Nothing says “we’ve got our act together” quite like a coalition that can’t count to three. But hey, who needs a plan when you can just wing it and hope for the best, right? 😏

Seems like the black-red coalition just got a masterclass in political gymnastics – no plan B and not even a bouncy castle to fall back on! 🤡 Trust and responsibility, eh? Sounds like a right laugh over coffee! ☕️

Only in politics can a failed election be considered a “shocking test”—like failing your driving exam and they still hand you the keys! 🚗💨 As for the summer interviews, I guess they’re just looking for new ways to dodge the questions. Classic! 😂
