Jeremy Clarkson mocks ‘idiot’ Elon Musk over Tesla vandalism

Elon Musk’s Government Role Sparks Controversy and Protests

Elon Musk, the biggest financial supporter of U.S. President Donald Trump’s 2024 re-election campaign, now holds an ill-defined government position focused on reducing the size of the federal government. As part of his role, Musk leads initiatives within the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) aimed at streamlining government operations.

In addition to his new government involvement, Musk has remained a controversial figure due to his provocative social media activity, support for far-right rhetoric, and a widely criticized public salute resembling Nazi symbolism shortly after Trump’s victory. These actions have intensified opposition against him, with many protesters specifically targeting his businesses and products.

Renowned journalist and TV personality Jeremy Clarkson weighed in on the backlash, commenting that frustration with Musk has even led some Tesla owners to distance themselves from him. “Things are so bad that a friend of mine, who initially bought a Tesla to help the environment (and save on congestion charges), has now put a sticker on his car stating he purchased it before realizing Musk was an idiot,” Clarkson remarked.

Clarkson also recalled facing legal action from Musk years ago. In fact, it was Tesla—not Musk personally—that sued the BBC in response to a 2008 review of the Tesla Roadster aired on Top Gear. At the time, the popular automotive show was known for its bold critiques, and Clarkson’s segment was no different. While acknowledging the Roadster’s impressive speed, the review included harsh criticism, dismissing it as a stereotypical “brown rice eco-car.” It also pointed out that one of the two test vehicles malfunctioned during filming.

When asked about the review on BBC’s Newsnight in 2013, Musk responded diplomatically, stating that while he admired the BBC as a whole, Top Gear prioritized entertainment over accuracy. “Clarkson’s show is much more about entertainment than it is about truth. I think most people realize that, but not everyone,” he remarked.

As Musk’s political influence grows, so too does public scrutiny, leading to increasing division among both Tesla customers and the broader public.

Oh, marvelous choice, letting the world’s most controversial techie run the government’s “efficiency” department—what could possibly go wrong? Next up, maybe we’ll have him streamline the NHS, right after he finishes counting his tweets. 😂
