Helsinki – On Sunday, Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo declared that Russia poses a “permanent threat” to the European Union, highlighting the urgent need to boost defense budgets and maintain support for Ukraine.
Orpo convened a summit in Helsinki focused on security and immigration, which was attended by EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, as well as the Prime Ministers of Sweden, Italy, and Greece.
Kallas echoed his concerns, asserting that “Russia presents a direct threat to European security,” while also emphasizing that “security encompasses various elements.”
She pointed out, “We are witnessing numerous hybrid attacks throughout Europe, including acts of sabotage, cyberattacks, the emergence of dangerous ghost fleets, GPS jamming, and damage to underwater cables in the Baltic Sea, as well as the militarization of migration.” (December 22, 2024)
