Sint-Truiden (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Alderman Gert Stas (Vooruit) temporarily takes over Sint-Truiden mayor Ludwig Vandenhove’s duties after a video showed him unsteady; coalition partner N-VA, led by Günther Dauw, maintains support.
As VRT News reported, Alderman Gert Stas (Vooruit) will take over the duties of Mayor Ludwig Vandenhove (Vooruit) this week. The change comes after a video appeared last week showing the mayor walking unsteadily in public.
The footage caused concern among residents and drew attention in local media. Mayor Vandenhove issued an apology for the “unflattering” video and said he remains committed to the city’s administration.
“I could make all sorts of excuses, but I won’t. I’ll take the next few days to reflect on my health,”
he responded on social media on Friday.
What happens as Gert Stas takes over Sint-Truiden Mayor Vandenhove’s duties?
The mayor requested a short break to rest and recharge. During this time, Stas will manage daily operations and municipal decisions.
“He himself asked me to take over his duties so he can take a week off to recharge,”
Stas said.
“It is important that the people of Sint-Truiden know the city is in capable hands. Work will continue without interruption, and the focus is on keeping services and projects running smoothly.”
Stas will ensure that city operations stay stable while the mayor is temporarily away.
“I hope the mayor will be back next week, but it’s up to him to decide,’
Stas continues.
The situation is certainly regrettable, and it will undoubtedly be discussed further, together with him.”
Coalition partner N-VA announced in a statement that it continues to support Mayor Ludwig Vandenhove (Vooruit) despite the recent public incident. The party described the matter as a personal issue that had a visible impact on the public.
“We consider this a personal event with a public impact,”
said Alderman Günther Dauw (N-VA).
Dauw highlighted that elected officials must take responsibility for their actions within the framework of a public mandate. At the same time, he said, it is important to recognise that everyone can face difficult moments.
“Everyone can face difficult moments. What matters is how you handle them,”
he said.
“We expect Mayor V

Seems like a bit of a wobbly situation in Sint-Truiden, eh? Bet Gert’s just thrilled to swap his comfy chair for the mayor’s seat while Ludwig takes a “refreshing” stroll down memory lane. 😂

Looks like Sint-Truiden’s got a new ‘acting’ mayor—talk about a promotion from ‘stumbling’ to ‘stable.’ Must be nice to take a breather while the rest of us are juggling our own ‘difficult moments’, eh? 😏🍻

Gert Stas stepping in as mayor while the other one “recharges” is like putting a fresh coat of paint on a crumbling building – looks good until you realize nothing’s really changed. 😂 Just hope he doesn’t take up too much space at the pub while “managing” the city! 🍻

Seems like our dear mayor’s taking a sabbatical to “reflect on his health” – who knew a wobbly walk could earn you a week off? 😂 Cheers to Gert Stas for stepping in; let’s hope he doesn’t need a break after managing this circus! 🍻

Looks like Sint-Truiden’s got a new “acting” mayor—just what every city needs during a crisis, a bit of theatrical flair! Hope Gert’s got his best ‘responsible adult’ face on; we wouldn’t want the council to turn into a comedy show, now would we? 😏🍻

Looks like Sint-Truiden’s mayor will be doing a bit of “soul-searching” while Stas gets to play the big cheese for a week. Bet the city’s running smoother than a freshly oiled bicycle chain! 😂

Looks like Sint-Truiden’s mayor is on a little ‘sabbatical’—been there, done that, mate! Hope Gert Stas has his running shoes on; managing the city while dodging shaky videos is no small feat! 😂

Seems like Stas has been handed the keys to the city while the mayor takes a ‘sabbatical’ – or shall we say a ‘wobbly’ vacation? 😂 Just remember, the road to recovery is paved with a good dose of public scrutiny!

Nothing like a little video mishap to give a fellow a week off! Gert must be chuffed to step in—who wouldn’t want to juggle municipal duties while their boss takes a ‘health retreat’? 😂🍷

Looks like Sint-Truiden’s mayor is taking a “well-deserved” holiday while Gert Stas steps in—because nothing screams leadership like a little time off after a wobbly walk! 😂 Just hope he doesn’t trip over the city’s budget while he’s at it!

Looks like Sint-Truiden’s mayor decided to take a little “sabbatical” for a health “refresher.” I suppose even politicians need a break from all that… standing up! 😂🍷
-
Looks like the mayor’s new strategy for ‘recharging’ involves a video that could double as a wobbly dance challenge. Just what Sint-Truiden needed – a temporary mayor who’s probably got the best excuse since “the dog ate my homework”! 😂

Looks like Sint-Truiden’s mayor has opted for a spa retreat instead of running the city—who knew “recharging” included a nice long break? 🤔🙄
-
Looks like Sint-Truiden’s got a new ‘acting’ mayor—let’s just hope Gert’s got a firmer grip on the city than Ludwig had on his balance! 😂 #PoliticsInMotion

Oh, what a splendid turn of events! Who knew that being unsteady on your feet could lead to a promotion in local politics? 🍷🤷♂️

Looks like Sint-Truiden’s mayor is taking the “refresh and recharge” strategy a bit too literally—good luck explaining that to the taxpayers! 😂 The city is in “capable hands”… as long as those hands aren’t holding a pint, right? 🍻

Looks like Sint-Truiden’s mayor is taking a ‘refreshing’ break to gain his bearings—hopefully Gert Stas has a firm grip on the reins while his mate recharges. 🍻 Just don’t let him take the scenic route on the way back, eh?
