Germany to Deliver €3 Billion in Military Aid to Ukraine

Certainly! Here is the rewritten article with “Brussels Morning” replaced by “Eurotoday” in the final text:

Berlin (Eurotoday) – The German government is preparing to release an additional 3 billion euros in military assistance for Ukraine, and German Finance Minister Joerg Kukies has briefed parliament’s budgetary committee on the move, according to a draft document from his ministry reviewed by Reuters.

The decision marks a significant development after outgoing Chancellor Olaf Scholz had previously blocked the additional aid, insisting on the easing of borrowing rules as a prerequisite.

Speaking to lawmakers from his Christian Democratic Union (CDU), chancellor-in-waiting Friedrich Merz stated that the aid package for Ukraine will be released following the expected passage of constitutional reforms. These reforms effectively exempt defense spending and support for Ukraine from Germany’s so-called debt brake, meeting a key condition set by the departing chancellor, Olaf Scholz of the Social Democratic Party (SPD).

The announcement of the aid comes just ahead of an EU leaders’ summit in Brussels later this week, where discussions will focus on support for Ukraine and bolstering Europe’s defenses. On Tuesday, the German parliament approved a major reform of fiscal regulations.

How did Scholz visit Kyiv before announcing new aid?

Last December, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz pledged additional military aid worth $680 million to Ukraine in a surprise visit to Kyiv, after President Volodymyr Zelenskyy sought security guarantees from NATO to protect his country amid ongoing Russian advances.

In a statement announcing his visit, Scholz said that the military assistance would be provided in light of Ukraine’s continued efforts to defend its territory, nearly 20 percent of which remains occupied by Russia. This was his second visit since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine nearly three years ago.

“I traveled to Kyiv tonight by train through a country that has been defending itself against the Russian war of aggression for over 1,000 days,”

Scholz stated.

“I want to make it clear here on the ground that Germany will remain Ukraine’s strongest supporter in Europe.

“Ukraine can rely on Germany – we say what we do. And we do what we say.”

Oh, fantastic! Just what every country needs—another €3 billion in military aid while our coffee shops are still charging €5 for a lukewarm cappuccino. ☕💸 Who knew defense had such a generous budget?

  2. Oh, brilliant! Just what we needed, another €3 billion in military aid—because who needs a balanced budget when you can flex those military muscles, right? 💸😂

Oh sure, because nothing says “we care” like a belated €3 billion handout! Just in time for the EU summit too—perfect for that photo op, eh? 😂💸
