Araghchi highlighted Tehran’s deep distrust of the United States during a recent call and criticized the “destructive approach” of some European countries and IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi towards the conflict between Israel and Iran. Their support for Israel and the U.S. complicates diplomatic efforts, though Araghchi didn’t specify which countries he referred to.
The call with Araghchi came amidst growing international concern over Iran’s nuclear ambitions following the collapse of its 2015 nuclear deal with the U.S. and Washington’s significant strikes on its nuclear facilities on June 21, which hindered a European diplomatic initiative with Araghchi.
Hostilities have escalated between Iran and Israel recently, culminating with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declaring victory in the country’s “Rising Lion” operation to restrict Iran’s nuclear capabilities. However, some reports suggest Iran’s program has been delayed only by a few months.
A recent ceasefire announced by U.S. President Donald Trump seems to be holding. Netanyahu’s office stated that the Israeli leader will visit the U.S. next week to meet with Trump, emphasizing ongoing diplomatic efforts for peace.
