Andy Burnham Declines Invitation to America’s 250th Birthday Celebration in London

Last week, U.S. President Donald Trump referred to Burnham as the former “mayor of a town” and described him as “extremely liberal” while speaking to reporters.

The Grand American Jubilee is expected to welcome about 2,500 guests to Winfield House, the official residence of U.S. Ambassador Warren Stephens in Regent’s Park. Attendees will pass by U.S. Marines to enter the gardens.

According to two individuals with knowledge of the event, who were granted anonymity, Stephens has sent out fewer invitations this year. In previous years, up to 4,500 guests have attended.

Invitations have been extended to leaders of every major party. Among past attendees are former Prime Minister Liz Truss, Reform UK leader Nigel Farage, and outgoing U.K. PM Keir Starmer, who joined the event in 2023 prior to taking office.

Entertainment will be provided by country music star Tim McGraw, along with fireworks, for which special permission was required due to prior disturbances at the nearby London Zoo, according to one of the aforementioned sources.

There was no comment from the U.S. Embassy when contacted.

The American celebration in Regent’s Park isn’t the only notable diplomatic event in London on Tuesday night. The Swiss Embassy’s Soireé Suisse is also scheduled to occur at the Victoria & Albert Museum.

The Swiss Embassy is making a strong effort to outshine their competitors with features such as a flying buffet, raclette stations, an ice bar, large quantities of swiss cheese, and DJ sets with themes inspired by Alpine glaciers. Two U.K-based diplomats have mentioned plans are being made for a shuttle service between the two events.

Seems like Burnham’s too busy being the “former mayor of a town” to bother with a grand American birthday bash – can’t blame him, though, who wants to rub shoulders with a few thousand guests when you could be enjoying a quiet night with a nice cuppa instead? 😂

Looks like Burnham’s got better things to do than schmooze with the Yanks over a few hotdogs and fireworks. 🤷‍♂️ I mean, who wouldn’t want to trade a posh garden for a Swiss cheese party with a DJ? 🍕🎉

Who needs a slice of American pie when you can have a Swiss cheese fondue at the same time? 🍰🧀 Sounds like Burnham’s just dodging a fireworks show for a raclette rave—smart move mate!

Well, ain’t this a right laugh? While the Americans throw a party for their 250th, our mate Andy’s skipping off like it’s a dodgy pub quiz night—bet he’s got a raclette station lined up somewhere else! 🧀💃

Oh, how gracious of Burnham to skip the Stateside shindig in favor of a Swiss soiree with raclette and DJ sets—nothing says “I love America” quite like a cheese buffet and a ride in a taxi, eh? 🎉🧀

Aye, who needs a grand birthday bash when you can enjoy a flying buffet and raclette in a museum? I mean, nothing says ‘celebration’ quite like a few slices of cheese while dodging U.S. Marines in Regent’s Park! 🎉🧀

Isn’t it just charming how the “mayor of a town” declines a bash for a country that’s only been around for 250 years? 😂 I suppose the Swiss will have their raclette and ice bars to keep their party from melting away in the shadow of American fireworks! 🧀✨

Seems like Burnham’s skipping out on the American extravaganza; guess he prefers to celebrate with a cheese fondue than fireworks and country tunes! 🇺🇸🎉 Who knew being “extremely liberal” meant avoiding a party with a side of Swiss cheese? 🧀😏

Oh, what a shame Burnham won’t be gracing the American soirée—guess the “mayor of a town” didn’t fancy mingling with 2,500 guests and the chance to enjoy some good ol’ fireworks! 🎆 But hey, who needs cheese and raclette when you’ve got the Swiss throwing a better party? 🍷🧀

Looks like Burnham decided to skip the American birthday bash—can’t blame him, though; who wants to rub elbows with a bunch of “extremely liberal” partygoers over a soggy burger and fireworks? 🎆 Meanwhile, I hear the Swiss are throwing a proper soirée with cheese, DJs, and raclette—let’s just say it sounds like the real party of the year! 🧀🎉

So, Burnham decided to skip the grand American birthday bash—can’t blame him for not wanting to party with the “former mayor of a town” 🤷‍♂️. I suppose he’d rather enjoy a quiet night with a raclette than listen to country tunes and fireworks, eh? 🍷🎆

Oh, how delightful! Nothing screams “celebration” quite like declining an invite to a party where you’d rub elbows with the likes of Liz Truss and a country music star. 🎉 Can’t wait to hear about those fireworks, though – might as well have a good show while the rest of us enjoy the Swiss cheese down the road! 😂🧀

Declining the invite to celebrate America’s 250th, eh? Clearly, Burnham’s just dying to miss out on the chance to mingle with future “extremely liberal” historians in a garden, while dodging fireworks and raclette. 🍷🇬🇧

Not attending a 250th birthday bash sounds like a masterclass in party etiquette—who wouldn’t want to celebrate with a few thousand of their closest American friends and some lively country tunes? 🎉🙄

Oh, marvelous, a grand celebration of America’s 250th, and our dear Andy is busy declining like a true aristocrat! 🎉 Meanwhile, the Swiss are set to out-cheese everyone with their flying buffets—because who needs fireworks when you have raclette? 🧀💃

  19. Not attending the American birthday bash? Classic Burnham move—probably too busy counting the number of ice bars and raclette stations at the Swiss soirée. 🍷🎉
