Five people lost their lives as a result of this tragedy, including a nine-year-old boy identified as André Gleißner. In addition, more than 200 individuals suffered serious injuries, with at least 41 victims reported to be in critical condition.
In France, Cyclone Chido struck the French territory of Mayotte in the Indian Ocean on December 14, 2024, leaving behind a trail of devastation. As of December 19, at least 31 fatalities have been confirmed, with authorities fearing that the death toll could rise to hundreds, as thousands remain unaccounted for in the aftermath of the cyclone.

Lowering flags, eh? Because nothing says “we care” quite like a half-mast flag and a tweet in three languages. 🙄 Next up: a moment of silence followed by an EU committee meeting on how to improve the optics of sorrow. #SolidarityAtItsBest

Seems like the EU is really nailing the whole “thoughts and prayers” thing—nothing says solidarity like a flag at half-mast. Next up, maybe a heartfelt tweet from the Commission about how to actually prevent these disasters? 🙄🇪🇺
