EU Illegal Crossings Decrease by 20% in First Half of 2025, Reports Frontex

The Central Mediterranean route is the EU’s most active migratory path, accounting for 39 percent of all irregular arrivals, according to a press release.

This route is also perilous. The International Organization for Migration estimates about 760 people died in the Mediterranean in the first half of this year. In 2024, 2,300 lives were lost in the same area.

Frontex has around 3,000 agents, planning to increase to 10,000. However, a recent European Commission proposal aims to expand its ranks to 30,000.

Meanwhile, migration remains a priority for European leaders. Denmark’s Prime Minister, Mette Frederiksen, has committed to advocating for stricter migration rules during Denmark’s presidency of the Council of the EU.

“Our citizens expect us politicians to find new solutions for a good reason, and European citizens deserve to feel safe in their countries,” she stated. “Therefore, we need to strengthen our external borders.”

Looks like Frontex is finally pulling its socks up, eh? A 20% drop in illegal crossings – must be all that extra paperwork keeping everyone on the straight and narrow. 😂

Migration problems sorted, just like that! Who knew doubling the border guards would solve everything? 🙄💼

Seems like we’re finally getting a grip on those pesky illegal crossings—20% down, but let’s not pop the champagne just yet. With the Mediterranean still playing host to a tragic number of lives lost, it’s like throwing a lifebuoy into a sinking ship, innit? 🛥️💔

Right, so let me get this straight: we’re patting ourselves on the back for a 20% decrease in illegal crossings while the Mediterranean is basically a watery grave? Classic EU logic, innit? 😏

Seems like we’ve cracked the code on migration—just throw more agents at the problem and hope for the best! 🚀 Meanwhile, the sea remains as welcoming as a British pub at last call. 🍻

Seems like the EU is on the case, reducing illegal crossings by a whopping 20%! 😂 Maybe next, they’ll tackle the mystery of why my coffee goes cold before I finish it!☕️

Remarkable how a 20% dip in illegal crossings is celebrated while the Mediterranean’s still a watery grave; must be all those extra agents having a tea party instead of doing their job! 🤷‍♂️ #Priorities #SafetyFirst

Seems like Frontex is finally on the case—20% decrease in illegal crossings? Must be all those extra agents practicing their ‘border control’ yoga. 🧘‍♂️ But hey, while we’re patting ourselves on the back, let’s not forget the Mediterranean is still a watery graveyard, innit?

A 20% drop in illegal crossings, eh? Must be all those lovely new border guards just sitting there with their cups of tea! ☕️ Keep up the good work, folks, I’m sure that’s exactly what the Mediterranean needed—more uniformed tourists! 🥴

Oh, marvelous! Nothing like a 20% drop in illegal crossings to make us all feel warm and fuzzy, while we watch 760 souls drown in the Med. Who needs a heart when we’ve got numbers, right? 🙄

Looks like they’re finally getting serious about those pesky irregular crossings—20% reduction, eh? Maybe next they’ll tackle that whole “people dying in the Med” thing… but hey, let’s just keep adding agents like it’s a game of Risk! 🎲
