EU Civil Protection Collaborates with Albanian Authorities to Address Extreme Weather Conditions

Heavy rain and snow have led to significant flooding in several regions of Albania, particularly in Durrës and Vlora.

All state agencies are actively responding, and authorities have implemented a preventive evacuation plan in certain areas. This morning, the Vjosa River in Vlora county overflowed its banks.

The European Union Delegation has expressed concern about the flooding in various parts of Albania and stated that the EU Directorate-General for Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid (DG ECHO) is maintaining close communication with Albanian officials, providing relevant information and satellite imagery from Copernicus.

“The European Union, along with Member States, is prepared to assist the Albanian population in dealing with these extreme weather conditions, including through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism,” noted the EU Delegation in Tirana. (January 8)
