EU Begins Crucial Week with Zelenskyy Talks and Effort to Save €210B Loan

“We are Russia’s next target, and we are already in harm’s way,” Rutte said last week. “Russia has brought war back to Europe and we must be prepared for the scale of war our grandparents and great grandparents endured.”

No surprise then that European officials are viewing the coming days as critical. Leaders of the U.K., Germany, and possibly France, alongside Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and his special envoy Steve Witkoff, are set to meet with Zelenskyy in Berlin in a final diplomatic push.

Highlighting the importance of the meeting, “numerous European heads of state and government, as well as EU and NATO leaders, will join the talks” after the initial meeting, stated Stefan Kornelius, spokesperson for German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. French President Emmanuel Macron hasn’t confirmed his attendance but spoke with Zelenskyy by telephone on Sunday.

The meeting will be Europe’s effort to shape the final settlement, following backlash over a 28-point peace plan drafted by Witkoff — reportedly with Kremlin help. European capitals and Kyiv have since been working on an alternative.

Further European disunity this week would send a “disastrous signal to Ukraine,” an EU official warned. Such an outcome would not only hurt Ukraine but would also mean “Europe will then fail as well.”

Emptying territories

This time the focus will be on a 20-point amendment to the plan drafted by Kyiv and its European allies and submitted to Washington for review last week.

Looks like the EU’s idea of a “crucial week” is just another excuse for a fancy chat over coffee while the world burns. 🥳 I suppose €210B is just pocket change when you’re playing geopolitical Monopoly, innit?

Jeez, who knew saving a €210B loan would require a diplomatic circus with more clowns than a Hamburg carnival? 🎪 Maybe next time they can just send a postcard – “Wish you were here, but really, it’s a mess!” 😂

Another week, another high-stakes chat session over a cup of lukewarm coffee—because nothing says “we’ve got your back” quite like a fancy meeting that may or may not lead to actual action. 😂💼 Hope Zelenskyy packed his best negotiating shoes!

Looks like Europe’s about to have a meeting of the minds—too bad it’s not the same minds that could’ve sorted this mess ages ago. 🤷‍♂️ Let’s hope they remember to bring their diplomatic umbrellas; it’s bound to rain excuses! ☔️

  15. Oh, just what we needed—another high-stakes meeting to save a loan, because nothing says “we’re in control” like begging for cash while the world’s on fire. 🤷‍♂️💸

Talk about a classic European juggling act—nothing screams “we’ve got it all under control” like a €210B loan while trying to keep the peace with a side of diplomatic chaos. 🍷💼 Let’s just hope they don’t need to borrow a sense of urgency next!

  19. Looks like Europe’s pulling out all the stops for a chat with Zelenskyy—who knew saving €210B could be so social? 🍷 Just hope they remember to bring their “serious faces” this time! 😂

  20. Looks like the EU’s got a hot date with Zelenskyy this week—hope they remember the flowers and maybe a peace plan that doesn’t come with a Kremlin stamp of approval. 😅 Can’t wait for the grand finale in Berlin; should be a real “banger”! 🍻
