Elon Musk has denied claims that he plans to donate £80 million to Nigel Farage’s Reform party. Speaking to ITV News on Thursday as he arrived on Capitol Hill to meet Republican lawmakers, Musk was asked about the potential donation and responded simply, “No.”
Farage, a prominent ally of Donald Trump, recently dismissed speculation about such a donation as “entirely theoretical” and “pure speculation.” The Reform UK leader emphasized that he has not approached Musk for financial support. However, he left the door open to potential backing in the future, saying, “Are Trump and Elon going to support me in the run-up to 2029? Well, that’s what friends are for, isn’t it?”
Musk, the owner of X (formerly known as Twitter), has been engaged in a prolonged feud with the Labour government since it took office in July. He has clashed multiple times with Prime Minister Keir Starmer over issues such as law and order, social media regulation, and economic policy.
Amid Musk’s denial, Conservative co-Chairman Dominic Johnson expressed concerns about the implications of such a donation. In a video call to Tory activists obtained by Sky News, Johnson warned that a contribution from Musk could be akin to “basically buying one of the political parties here.” He criticized Farage, arguing that accepting financial support from Musk would risk turning him into a “puppet of a foreign politician” and suggested the Reform UK leader should “be frankly embarrassed” by the situation.
While Farage downplays the speculation, questions about the potential influence of figures like Musk and Trump on the UK political landscape remain, particularly with the approach of future election cycles.
