“The goal was to eliminate the hassle of formatting conclusion texts, allowing us to focus more on discussions. That has been achieved. At his inaugural European Council, Costa lived up to his commitments, marking a positive beginning,” remarked De Croo.
Unlike his predecessor Charles Michel, Costa aims to minimize the duration of each European summit to one day whenever possible. He successfully achieved this during his first European Council, which commenced at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday. It remains to be seen if he will be able to maintain this timeframe during discussions on financial issues in the future.
Just a month before Donald Trump took office as the new American president, European leaders convened at the summit with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to discuss support for his country. They also addressed topics such as European foreign policy, the situations in Syria and Georgia, and migration challenges.
