Costa: Greenland is for its people and fully supported by the EU

Today, European Council President Antonio Costa emphasized the European Union’s commitment to support Greenland and Denmark as necessary, firmly stating that violations of international law will not be tolerated anywhere.

On the subject of Greenland, Costa asserted, “Greenland belongs to its people. Decisions regarding Denmark and Greenland cannot be made without Denmark and Greenland.” This declaration was made during a speech marking Cyprus’s assumption of the rotating EU presidency.

He reaffirmed, “They have the complete support and solidarity of the European Union.”

Recently, the U.S. president has expressed intentions to control Greenland, stating its significance to U.S. military strategy and suggesting that Denmark has failed to adequately safeguard it.

Costa noted that Cyprus is taking over the EU Council during a time when the rules-based international order faces challenges and urged member states to stand firm against these threats.

He proclaimed, “The European Union cannot condone violations of international law, whether in Cyprus, Latin America, Greenland, Ukraine, or Gaza,” asserting that “Europe will continue to be a steadfast defender of international law and multilateralism.” (07/01/26)

Oh, lovely, because nothing says “we care” like a high-society EU meeting while Greenland is being eyed like the last piece of strudel at a fancy dinner. 🍰 Let’s hope the U.S. doesn’t bring a fork to the table!

Oh sure, let’s just keep tossing around declarations like confetti while the U.S. plans a holiday in Greenland—talk about a diplomatic game of musical chairs! 😏🌍

Oh, brilliant! So now we’re all experts on Greenland’s property rights, eh? I suppose next we’ll be debating the ownership of the moon over a pint in a Brussels pub. 🍻

  4. Isn’t it charming how the EU is suddenly the knight in shining armor for Greenland? Just imagine the paperwork for that international law defense while sipping coffee in a Brussels café! ☕️✍️

  5. Seems like Costa’s got his eyes on Greenland while the rest of us are still trying to figure out how to get a decent cup of coffee in Brussels. ☕️ But hey, good luck with that “complete support” while juggling international law like a hot potato! 🥔

The EU’s commitment to Greenland is as solid as a Danish pastry—sweet on the outside but still a bit flaky when the heat’s on. 😏 Let’s hope they don’t forget it’s not just about the walk in the park but also about who’s holding the leash!

  7. Funny how Costa thinks Greenland is all about its people, while we all know it’s just another pawn in the grand chess game of international politics. 😂 Keeps things spicy, doesn’t it?

No doubt, Costa’s got a real knack for stating the obvious—who knew Greenland wasn’t just a holiday destination for Americans? 🤔 Just what we needed, a lecture on international law while Cyprus takes the wheel—cheers to that! 🍷

  10. Seems like Costa’s got his sights set on Greenland while dodging the real challenges at home. But hey, who needs to worry about pressing issues when you can play the international law superhero, right? 😏✈️

Of course, nothing says “we care” quite like a grandstanding speech about Greenland while sipping espresso in Brussels. 🤷‍♂️ As if the U.S. is just going to hand over the keys after Costa’s touching words!

Seems like Costa’s got his eyes on Greenland like it’s the last fish in a pub, eh? Next thing you know, there’ll be a “Save Our Icebergs” campaign—because why not? 🥶💼

Oh, brilliant! Nothing says “we’ve got your back” quite like a politician’s vague promises while the U.S. is eyeing your backyard like a hungry seagull at a fish-and-chips shop. 🍟🇩🇰

  15. Oh, brilliant move there, Costa! Because nothing says “we care” like a lecture on international law while the U.S. is eyeing your backyard like a hungry seagull at a fish market. 🍽️💼

  16. Seems like Costa’s got a bit of a flair for the dramatic, eh? 🤔 I mean, who knew Greenland was such a hot potato—next they’ll be telling us they’re putting it on the EU map for a holiday special! 🗺️✨

  18. Oh, fantastic, just what we needed—a reminder that Greenland’s for its people, while we all watch from the sidelines like it’s a bad reality show. Can’t wait for the next episode of “As the EU Turns”! 😏

Oh, look at Costa pulling the superhero cape over Greenland—who knew the EU had a soft spot for icebergs and local decisions? 🤷‍♂️ Just what we need, more ‘international law’ lectures while the world’s on fire! 🔥
