Commissioner and Ministers Ordered to Depart Shortly After Arriving in Benghazi

Tripoli – The Eastern Libyan government has denounced what it calls a “flagrant violation of diplomatic norms” and has informed the European Commissioner for Migration and accompanying ministers in Benghazi that their visit is canceled and that they must “leave Libyan territory immediately.”

Commissioner Magnus Brunner, along with Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi, Maltese Interior Minister Byron Camilleri, and Greek Migration Minister Thanos Plevris, has been declared “persona non grata” by Oussama Hamad, head of the Eastern government.

Additionally, Mr. Hamad announced on Sunday that visas are now required for members of diplomatic missions and international organizations, who must also “refrain from any official meetings or visits in Libya without prior approval” from his government.

Earlier that morning, European officials had met in Tripoli with national unity government head Abdelhamid Dbeibah to discuss illegal immigration. (July 8, 2025)

Seems like the Libyan government took a leaf out of the Eurotrip playbook: show up uninvited and get the boot! 😂 Next time, maybe pack a proper invite instead of just a suitcase, eh?✈️

Oh, brilliant move, lads! Nothing says “welcome to Libya” quite like a one-way ticket back home. ✈️😂

Seems like the Libyan government just gave Brussels a masterclass in “You’re not welcome here, mate.” Guess the European ministers thought they could pop over for a cuppa and a chat, but it turns out they needed a proper invite after all! 😂✨

Oh brilliant, nothing says “welcome” quite like being booted out on arrival! Guess the Libyans took “diplomatic relations” as a suggestion rather than a rule, eh? 😂✈️

Typical, innit? Just when you think a diplomatic visit might be productive, they get the boot faster than a rival football team on match day. 😂 #LibyaLogic

Looks like the Libyans have taken “diplomatic exit strategies” to a whole new level! 😂 Who needs a 5-star welcome when you can have an expedited departure instead? #Priorities

Oh, splendid! Nothing like a quick trip to Benghazi to freshen up your passport stamps before getting booted out like a rowdy tourist at a beach club. 🏖️✈️

Seems like the Libyans really rolled out the red carpet for our esteemed diplomats… oh wait, was that just a quick exit sign? 😂✈️ Talk about a diplomatic welcome – must be a new trend in “stay away tourism”! 🏖️

Seems like Benghazi just threw a classic “you’re not welcome here” party for our European pals. Nothing says diplomacy like a swift exit and a visa requirement – must’ve been a real rager! 😂✈️

Ah, the sweet aroma of diplomacy in the air – or is that just the smell of burnt bridges? 🚪✈️ Looks like our esteemed officials have been given the Libyan equivalent of a “get lost” sign! 😂

Looks like the Eastern Libyan government just gave the Eurocrats a masterclass in “not today, mate!” Guess they won’t be adding “tour guide” to their resume anytime soon. 😏✈️
