Borgloon Driver Crashes at Checkpoint, Receives Ankle Monitor

Tongeren-Borgloon (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – A 41-year-old Tongeren-Borgloon driver crashed into parked cars at a Borgloon breathalyser checkpoint last week, injuring 6 officers; he faces multiple charges and will be placed under electronic monitoring.

As VRT News reported, the 41-year-old driver involved in the weekend crash at a breathalyser checkpoint in Tongeren-Borgloon appeared before the investigating judge in Tongeren, in the province of Limburg, Belgium, today, Oct 27, 2025. The Limburg Public Prosecutor’s Office said he will be placed under electronic monitoring while the legal process continues. 

What happened when the Tongeren-Borgloon driver crashed at the Borgloon checkpoint?

Authorities said the man faces multiple charges. In addition to violations of the highway code, he is being prosecuted for involuntary assault and battery and driving under the influence. Investigators are looking into the full circumstances of the crash, including the driver’s level of intoxication. 

Over the weekend of October 19-20, 2025, a routine breathalyser checkpoint was disrupted after a 41-year-old driver from Tongeren-Borgloon collided with a number of parked cars. One officer was seriously injured and 5 more were reported to have minor wounds. 

Emergency services arrived just a short while after the collision and escorted the officers to the nearest hospital. The driver was charged at the scene of the accident and had their license removed.
