Brussels (Eurotoday) – New EU Commissioner for Energy Dan Jørgensen considers as his highest priority to develop a plan that would ultimately cut all “energy links” between Russia and the European Union.
In the latest interview with Politico, the European Union’s new energy chief, Jørgensen, cautioned that the European Union is faltering in its multiyear movement to disregard Russian fuel and required a strategy to get things back on track. Dan Jørgensen identified the European Union’s increasing acquisitions of Russian liquefied natural gas as a special concern and a reversal of the bloc’s low trajectory.
What steps will Jørgensen take to reduce Russian gas?
Jørgensen said:
“To have been capable of bringing down our dependence to such a scope that we have is quite an achievement,”
(While) “it’s apparent to everybody that something new requirements to occur because … now it’s starting to go in the wrong direction,”
he expressed, stating he would roll out
“a tangible plan that will include efficient means and means for us to crack the remaining part of the issue.”
Jørgensen expressed his strategy will concentrate “on gas primarily, but also oil and nuclear,” and will embark within the first 100 days of his assuming post. The plan designates the next stage in the EU’s huge effort to change how it supports life for 450 million people after Russia plagued Ukraine in 2022.

he stated, reflecting the EU executive’s long-running standing on the 2019 Moscow-Kyiv deal.
LNG imports will be “definitely one of the first things we have to consult” with the incoming U.S. government, Jørgensen expressed.
