Skopje – Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski expressed significant frustration among Macedonian citizens regarding the European Union, acknowledging that despite these sentiments, EU membership remains a strategic objective for the country. He emphasized that there is currently no better alternative for Macedonia.
When asked by a journalist about the nation’s economic outlook in the context of a global landscape where entry into the EU is stalled, Mickoski stated, “As a small country, we will prioritize our interests,” reaffirming that Macedonia’s strategic commitment is to remain an active member of NATO, which he described as a strong commitment from the government.
“We are focused on addressing domestic challenges, implementing reforms, and boosting the economy. This government is dedicated to these aims. In international relations, there is an unspoken understanding that larger powers act on their capacities while smaller nations must act on their needs. We will attentively observe developments and aim to foresee future global events. We maintain connections in Washington, Brussels, and other crucial locations, gathering information, analyzing it, and acting in accordance with our primary objective—the welfare of the Macedonian citizens,” Mickoski concluded during the press conference.
